How to choose a Sewing Class or Session
Here at Upcycle, we want to be able to provide a space for all of our sewing community. There is a need for this, and we want to support your creative upcycling and sewing. Each of these classes and sessions are different and will depend on your sewing needs and experience, so which Sewing Class or Session is best for me? Here's a snapshot, to help you choose.
BEGINNER SEWING (Adults & Kids)
Bobbins, threading, pedals and dials. If you haven’t sewn before or need a refresher as it’s been awhile, this is where to start. We teach sewing rules, and then show you how to break them! These classes are aimed at people who would like to significantly increase their sewing skills and are perfect for people with no to limited sewing ability, real 'back to basics' classes. We will cover everything you need to know to get you started on your creative sewing journey.
PROJECT CLASSES
If you have some sewing experience, and would like to spend some dedicated time on personal projects with our support and guidance this one is for you. Need help with alterations, mending, or following a pattern? Perhaps some assistance with inserting a zip, changing an op shop find, sprucing up a pair of jeans, or learning to darn? Maybe you just want to hone in your sewing skills in a supportive and creative environment? Choose between casual Saturday sessions or each week over a couple of months.
USE OUR MACHINES
Space, time and equipment for those able to work independently. If you know how to thread a machine, wind a bobbin, or can thread an overlocker with your eyes shut, this one is for you. Shared use of our equipment and space for $10/hour on Mondays 1 - 4pm or Thursdays 1 - 5pm. MEMBERS ONLY (No pre-bookings needed).
SLOW STITCH SATURDAYS
While many of our workshops are sewing machine based, this one is all about the hand stitching. Visible mending and slow stitching bring together a gentle mindfulness, creativity and perhaps a much needed slowness to the day. Last Saturday of the month is Slow Stitch Saturday, 11am-1pm (apart from January, December and public holidays). These are unstructured machine free sharing sessions, where we will use hand stitching, darning, and visible mending techniques. Plenty to be inspired by, and all the assistance you might need.
